PANKRTI were a punk rock band from Ljubljana, Slovenia (ex-Yugoslavia) active in the late 1970s and during the 1980s. They were known for provocative and politically engaged songs and billed themselves "The First Punk Band Behind The Iron Curtain". They are one of the most important former Yugoslav Punk groups and one of the first punk rock bands ever formed in a communist country. The band started playing in fall of 1977, practicing in the basement of Kodeljevo's music school, and held the first concert at Moste High School. Initially they played covers of established punk bands including the Sex Pistols, The Clash and New York Dolls. Some of their first songs that became popular were "Za železno zaveso", "Anarhist" and "Lublana je bulana". They were included in the "Novi punk val" compilation album. They released their first album "Dolgcajt" in 1980 and gained the status of a cult band all over former Yugoslavia. Their second album “Državni ljubimci” was highly appreciated in the public and gained an award for best Yugoslav album of the year. In 1984 they released their third "Rdeči album". Its title is an obvious pun on the famous album by The Beatles and red as a symbol of communism. The album featured a cover version of the famous Italian communist revolutionary song "Bandiera Rossa", which is one of their most famous tracks. One of their last concerts was in "Tivoli Hall" in Ljubljana in 1987, named "Zadnji pogo". In 1996 the group temporarily reformed to perform as a support act for the Sex Pistols concert in Ljubljana during their "Filthy Lucre Tour". In 2003, Pankrti were included in the 2003 Yugonostalgic Croatian rockumentary "Sretno dijete", which deals with the former Yugoslav Punk and New Wave scene of the late 1970s and early 1980s. A musical division of 'The End Media' group (Art group focused on experimental electronic imaging and multimedia, co-founded in mid 80s by Gradimir Aleksić) that experimented with a variety of correlations between the aesthetics of video image and sound. They produced four albums of music ("W.C.H.", "Children of the R.", "The Worse of..." and "O' Wari"). The End Band experimented with cable TV and the application of new technologies for Art for TV. First line-up was: Gradimir Aleksić (guitar, keyboards), Saša Sax Stojanović (keyboards, saxophone, guitar), Žaklina Lukić - (vocals) and Branimir Lokner (guitar). Second line up was even stronger with Gradimir Aleksić (guitar), Nenad Vitomirac (drums), Zoran Nakovski (bass) and Dubravka Živković (vocals) (mind-blowing actress-singer). THE END BAND issued double A side single "Children of the R./All Tomorrows P." with pondering rhythm section and provocative singing (CDA, Sarajevo 1988). A year later they published, first in Slovenia and later in Serbia (Rockland) audiocassette "The Worse of..." covering 10 milestones of RNR with anthological 'Sympathy for the Devil' cover. The same year they toured the clubs with their controversial stage acts. In 1989/90 Nakovski and Živković quit The End Band and Aleksić and Vitomirac took 17 years old prodigy child Aleksandar Grujić on bass and vocals. 'The End Band' adopted dark and depressive sound with equal lyrics, predicting the future of their homeland. They rehearsed in old abandoned house for months before entering the studio played by B. Lokner's "Rockland Production". They entered studio "Akademia" in Belgrade for almost six months recording their last album "O'Wari", a collection of deep and dark songs such as 'We Were', 'The House', 'Here Comes the Moon and Wet', to name a few. After series of gigs in the war thorn country they disbanded in 1991 with excerption of participation in LED ART movement, under the name VIA, where they recorder the pure noise soundrack in the cold storages, centrically pushing the limits of physical capabilities of musical instruments and personal strength. 'The End Band' never followed any style or trend, aproaching the scene from the individual angle and silently influencing numerous bands after their time. During the 1980s Marko Brecelj led an unconventional career of a solo artist. He used to play minimalist one-man show performances, accompanied by guitar or violin, with hilarious poetry recitals and stage acrobatics (burning his hair, singing from a wheelchair...). In 1985 he assembled a short- lived band (or rather: a project) called MARJANOV ČUDNI ZAJEC who recorded a minor avant-rock masterpiece under the indicative title "Svinjam diamante". Album went unnoticed on the Yugoslav market due to poor distribution and obviously deliberate underground Lo-Fi approach. Brecelj's twisted sense of humour and absurd lyrics is best heard in the short miniaturist sketches performed live in front of small audience constantly bursting out in laugh. The opener "Vrba" contains nonsense quasi-translation mix of Slovene and German lines, while "Midnight" is a straightforward finger showed to the class of "Tovariši" (that is "the Comrades" - the Communist party aristocracy) backed by the sounds of pigs squeak and jazzy piano! "When I Am Dead" shows the band capable of delivering a true "a capella" in the vein of Negro spirituals, but still with a sort of distant echo of Zappa's doo-wop workings. Along with Brecelj (described on the album cover as "the former rock star"), his long-time associate singer/songwriter Ivan Volarič Feo is also present and both were actually credited as "guests" on the album. Strange indeed, but when you start listening to other compositions, MARJANOV ČUDNI ZAJEC shows very good musical competencies, much greater than is commonly the case for usual backing bands. The members were: Leon Ukmar-guitar, Zlatko Basič-bass, Taljub Lapajne-guitar, Robert Vatovec-keyboards and Marjan Medvesćak-drums. Music is full of unusual and odd rhythm patterns provided by scratchy guitars, leading bass lines and occasional synths. Brecelj's voice is funny, exaggerated, aggressive, satirical, mocking, gentle, and cool all from one moment to another. Comparison with Frank Zappa cannot be avoided, but this music is related to many different styles - avant-gardist RIO approach, especially in strong political overtones like in "Soldaška" satirising the JNA - Yugoslav People's Army - everyday life of involuntary soldiers, post-punk guitar and bass riffs as in "Ali slišite" and "Drugi, tretji", BULDOZER-like psychedelia with disturbing vocals and jazz-manner played bass and piano in "Mamici za 1. November", or spacey beat with odd time signature in "Bilećanka"invoking certain elements from Krautrock or even "Planet Gong" universe. "Svuda ljudi, svuda zastave" with its keyboards and synth flushes is even close to progressive rock. "Sexy Disco Hit" is one of Brecelj's best songs, in which Zappa meets Talking Heads or Pere Ubu, having one of the most fervent spits into the face of popular dance culture. And it is really seducing, hypnotic, danceable and funky! "Majmuni" is the electric version of the angst-filled protest song against Yugoslav rock dinosaurs Bijelo Dugme, previously recorded on the acoustic EP "Parada" in 1981. "Stonesi spoznajo moje stare starše" is previously unreleased old acoustic track in a folksy singer/songwriter style, presumably written in 1970s. This fine, excellent, funny, serious, obnoxious, ridiculing, mesmerising piece of unconventional rock music ends on another absurd poetry note in the closing 20 seconds "Smrt" - "Death is without colour, taste or smell/Death does not have acid-base reaction/Death is an isolator/Death does not show any signs of life"! THE ANIMATORI was formed in 1980, in Zagreb, Croatia, by Krešimir Blažević (singer, songwriter and guitar player), Andro Purtić, Vatroslav Markušić and Tomislav Brezičević. Band history dating back from 1977 when Krešimir Blažević from Slavonski Brod coming to study in Zagreb and joined to sympho rock group "Animatori". The group soon broke up and after three years Krešimir Blazević has formed a new group with the old name and a completely different music. In the fall of 1982 they recorded first album "Anđeli nas zovu da im skinemo krila". The greatest success achieved by the title track, which is a few months remained in first place on TV show "Hit mjeseca". Krešimir Blažević died in 2007 in Zagreb.

FIRE was a rock band from Čakovec (Croatia) in former Yugoslavia. Members were Jura Havidić (guitars, vocals), Miljenko Balic (bass guitar) and Emil Vugrinec (drums, vocals). This is their one and only one album from 1973.

"Koza nostra" is the tenth studio album from Serbian and former Yugoslav rock band RIBLJA ČORBA, released in 1990. "Koza nostra" is the first studio album recorded with guitarist Zoran Ilić, who came to Riblja Čorba as a replacement for Nikola Čuturilo. The song "Al Kapone" featured Branimir Štulić and Azra members on backing vocals. "Gde si u ovom glupom hotelu" featured former Suncokret members Gorica Popović, Snežana Jandrlić and Biljana Krstić on backing vocals. Keyboards on the album were played by Bajaga i Instruktori member Saša Lokner. The album hits included a cover of Chuck Berry's song "Memphis, Tennessee", Riblja Čorba version entitled "Crna Gora, Bar", the punk rock song "Deca", and "Tito je vaš", which directly ridiculed late Yugoslav president Josip Broz Tito.
